| This 884 page volume is a manifestation of the heightened interest toward the productivity issue, bringing together a large number of studies that Industry Canada, the lead federal department on productivity, has undertaken in-house or commissioned from outside researchers. Some of these studies have already been published by Industry Canada, several figuring prominently in the productivity debate, but many are published here for the first time. Our objective is to make these studies available to a wider public. To our knowledge, this is the first compilation of research papers devoted exclusively to productivity issues in a Canadian context to be published.
Le présent ouvrage témoigne lui-même de l'intérêt accru suscité par la question de la productivité. Il réunit un grand nombre d'études qu'Industrie Canada, le ministère fédéral qui pilote le dossier de la pro-ductivité, a entrepris à l'interne ou commandé auprès de chercheurs de l'extérieur. Certaines de ces études ont déjà été publiées par Industrie Canada, dont quelques-unes qui occupent une place de choix dans le débat sur la productivité, mais de nombreuses autres sont publiées ici pour la première fois3. Notre but est de mettre ces études à la disposi-tion d'un vaste public. À notre connaissance, c'est la première fois que l'on publie un recueil d'études consacrées exclusivement aux questions de productivité dans le contexte canadien.
